If you think
the ferry ride from Cape Cod to Martha's Vineyard is a short
one wait till you take the ferry from Edgartown to Chappaquiddick;
it takes about two minutes to cross the busy little harbor.
In this autumn view from the Chappaquiddick side, the old waterfront
of Edgartown is seen at its best. Founded in 1642 and called
Great Harbor, it became Edgartown in 1671, and was soon a thriving
seaport. Its success produced the beautiful old houses of the

us today the setting for fine restaurants, inns, shops, and
