All artwork copyright is owned by Karen North Wells.   Close Window/Return to Category Page Caroling at the Brewster Store Item # 33 Watercolor Details Location: Brewster, Cape Cod, MA Description: Brewster caroling started at the Old Town Hall, when in 1970 the selectmen asked Brewster artist Gordon Brooks to play his cornet there under the porte cochere. Later, the owners of the Brewster Store asked him to play there instead. You can see him in this painting playing as he has for many years. Co-sponsor for the event is the First Parish Church. Song sheets are distributed and after the carols, the store serves mulled cider and refreshments near its venerable pot-bellied stove. The Brewster Store was built in 1852 as a Universalist church and was converted to a general store in 1862, selling provisions, general merchandise, and gifts ever since. Karen has painted the Brewster Store in all four seasons and her cards of the paintings can be found at the store.
